Mary Portas Government-backed scheme to save the British High Street descends into farce with thousands left unspent | Mail Online

A Government scheme backed by retail expert Mary Portas to save struggling British high streets has descended into farce, according to a new report.

Portas was enlisted by the Government to try to revive high streets hit by soaring rents and rates, the economic downturn, out-of-town supermarkets, and the boom in online shopping.

But trade magazine The Grocer reported this week that the Portas pilot project has failed to provide a rescue package for thousands of shops under threat.
