The West Coast rail fiasco has landed taxpayers with a bill of £50million ‘at the very least’ a damning report by MPs revealed today.

The investigation into the bidding process found it was riddled with ‘littered with basic errors’ and showed a ‘complete lack of common sense’.

MPs said they were now worried about the ability of the Department for Transport (DfT) to handle future projects, including HS2 and Thameslink.
